Beekeeping Bootcamp Package 2021

About Beekeeping Bootcamp

These workshops are designed to support beginning beekeepers all the through their first season. Workshops are taught by Mario Padilla, Butterfly Pavilion Entomologist and knowledgeable beekeeper. You ll work alongside Mario and other learning beekeepers, developing the skills necessary to achieve thriving hives. Beekeeping Bootcamp is qualified through the Colorado State Beekeeping Association (CSBA)!


Member: $150 for first participant, $50 for one additional participant

Non-member: $165 for first participant, $75 for one additional participant


  • Thank you for your interest in our 2021 Beekeeping Bootcamp program at Butterfly Pavilion! We are planning on hosting again our 5-part beekeeping bootcamp classes and making adjustments for virtual learning as well as safe, modified, in-person time in our apiary in 2021. Classes can be purchased separately or as a package.
  • 2021 Class dates are:
  • Saturday January 23: Beekeeping Basics - 10am-1pm (all virtual)
  • Saturday April 10: Package Installation - 10am-1pm - intended to be online and in-person
  • Saturday June 12: Mid-Season Management and maladies - 10am-1pm - intended to be online and in-person
  • Saturday August 21: Honey Extraction - 10am-1pm - intended to be online and in-person
  • Saturday October 9: Preparing for Winter - 10am-1pm - intended to be online and in-person


Besieged Bees


Besieged Bees  suggested ages: 3rd -  6th grade
In this empowering program presented via interactive video conference, participants compare three types of bees, discover why bees are important, investigate their population decline, and generate ideas to help conserve and restore their numbers!

BP Nature Nerds Family Club

Explore exciting nature topics with the whole family. Workshops typically take place the first Saturday of the month from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm.


Members: $6 Adults, $4 Children (2   12)
Non-members: $14 Adults, $6 Children (2   12)
Includes admission to Butterfly Pavilion

Please note:

Pre-registration and pre-payment required. Nature Nerds Family Club workshops are best suited for families with children ages 4-10.

30 person maximum per program.

Programs are not eligible for senior discounts. Children under 2 years old are free of admission, but content is not well suited for this age range.

As spring returns, so do some beautiful pollinators! Explore the diverse and incredible world of butterflies from the migratory Monarchs to the high-altitude Hairstreak! Learn about ways you can participate in Citizen Science and monitor the butterflies where you live as we answer the question,  What butterflies live in our backyard?

Butterfly Pavilion Rainforest Yoga

Experience a rejuvenating yoga class in our tropical rainforest. Led by one of our rotating instructors, classes provide an amazing opportunity to transcend the hustle and bustle of daily life as you practice amongst the butterflies in our conservatory.

Refunds/Transfers: If you are no longer able to attend, please contact Butterfly Pavilion 48 hours before your class and you will be given the option to transfer your registration to a different date. No refunds are given once the class has been purchased, unless Butterfly Pavilion cancels the class for any reason.  No transfers will be allowed after the class has ended if the participant is unable to attend.

12/11: Ocean Layers: Twilight and Midnight Have you ever heard of Cuttlefish? What about Anglerfish? Vampire Squid? Dive deep with us into the layers where the animals are both cute and unique looking as we learn about this extreme habitat.

12/18: Ocean Layers: Abyssal and Hadal  Have you ever wondered why deep sea animals are so big? How can these giant animals see their prey in the pitch dark? Voyage with us as we learn about the bottom of the ocean and how these incredible animals survive this intense habitat.

Friday Camp 12/4: Ocean Layers - Sunlight!

12/4: Ocean Layers: Sunlight  What is your favorite marine animal? Is it a dolphin, shark, Nemo? Come swim with us in this familiar layer of the sea as we learn about the animals that call it home.

Timed entry is self-guided and allows 80 minutes in the facility. To maintain capacity, please limit your visit to 80 minutes and exit the facility.

All guests ages 3 and above are required to wear a mask to visit Butterfly Pavilion.

SNAP card, Library Adventure, five by five, and free pass holders must call 303-469-7660 to reserve tickets during front desk hours 9 am - 4:15 pm. Discount cannot be applied online.

Kid's Night Out

Need a date night? Register your kiddos for a night of fun, exploration and learning after hours at Butterfly Pavilion! Led by experienced camp educators, this night will be complete with pizza dinner, exhibit exploration time (flashlights encouraged for the rainforest after dark!), and will end with a craft and a nature-themed video. 5:30-9pm Cost: $25 for first kiddo (non-member), $20 member $20 for additional kiddos, $18 member

Low Sensory Mornings at Butterfly Pavilion

Here at Butterfly Pavilion, we know that things can get pretty hectic with busy butterflies, bees and bodies buzzing around during the day. Join us for a low-sensory morning before we open to the public that meets the needs of families that need to experience the Pavilion in a different way. With natural lighting, quiet tones, and limited admission – this experience offers your little one an enjoyable, low-key experience just for them. Each Low Sensory Morning offers guided interpretation in each exhibit, optional activity guides, and an interactive Storytime program.

Mon Dec 28: Eric Carle: Very Quiet Cricket, Cery Lonely Firefly, Very Clumsy Click Beetle What would happen if a cricket was quiet? Could beetles be clumsy? Is everything we read in sotries correct? Help unravel the mystery of what's true and what is not in some of our favorite Eric Carle classics.

Timed Entry Tickets with Colorado Backyard Play Area and General Admission

Your timed entry ticket includes access to Colorado Backyard indoor play area and general admission.

Play area is only available during the first 40 minutes of your visit followed by self-guided exploration of our exhibits and Gift Shop.

Late arrivals after 15 minutes for timed entry will not be accommodated.

After 40 minutes has ended, the play area will be closed for cleaning.

Guests will not be allowed to reenter play area after your timed entry has ended.

All members and guests ages 3 and above will be required to wear a mask covering the nose and face in the facility.

Please keep a 6 foot distance from other guests.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Timed entry tickets are valid only for the date and time reserved.

Tripod Photography

Relish a quiet hour of tripod photography in the tropical rainforest before we open our doors to the public. Snap photos of awakening butterflies and exotic tropical flowers in the morning light. Sessions are offered monthly and begin at 7:45 am.

You may pre-register and pay online (preferred) or pay at the door.  Program is limited to 25 participants.

Cost:  $15 for non-members, $11.00 for members. Note: This session is self-guided. Participants supply own equipment.
