Members now have the opportunity to have Butterfly Pavilion all to themselves! During Member Hour, members can visit either one hour before or one hour after we are open to General Admission guests and groups.

Butterfly Pavilion is hosting its first-ever Adult "Learn about the diversity of our pollinators of the Rocky Mountain Region. This talk will highlight the origins, differences and preferences of the many different bees that we see in our region along with solutions to contribute to their continued success.

Your instructor: Ryan Bartlett lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife and two daughters. He is a certified Arborist, Naturalist and plant pathologist and is the lead instructor for the Arborist Apprenticeship Program at Front Range Community College. In addition to his primary profession as an arborist, he established the organization, Colorado Native Bee, an educational organization spotlighting more than 1000 species of native bees in the State of Colorado. Through Colorado Native Bee, Ryan has spearheaded outreach to educate about the importance of native plants and native pollinator conservation. Ryan enjoys speaking in various settings such as schools, conferences, state parks, state legislature hearings, to elevate native pollinators, habitat and arboriculture issues. He just finished his latest project writing a Field Guide to Native Bees of the Western United States.

No yard? No Problem! Anyone can create and indulge in a beautiful garden space, and any outdoor space can serve pollinators! Meet some small-space plant powerhouses, talk structure and resources in containers, and get inspired to make big change in little areas.

Relish a quiet hour of morning light photography in the tropical rainforest before open our doors to the public. Snap photos of beautiful butterflies and exotic tropical flowers in the morning light. Sessions are offered monthly and begin at 8:00am.

Cost:  $10 for non-members, $8.00 for members. Note: This session is self-guided. Participants supply own equipment.

What does it take to have a garden space that is truly pollinator-friendly? Explore techniques and approaches in encouraging your garden to thrive as it’s own mini-ecosystem, and reap the benefits of less money, time, and resources spent on your space. Learn the do’s and don’ts of clean up, the signs and symptoms of different visitors to your garden, and the magic in embracing a little bit of “mess”.

If you ve always wanted to see more butterflies in your garden, have bigger harvests from your kitchen garden, or just make a positive difference for the planet, pollinator habitat gardening could be for you! This 90-minute interactive workshop will introduce you to the principles and practices of pollinator habitat gardening, from site assessment to design to maintenance. Learn about bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while also learning how simple changes to your landscape can add food, shelter, and other resources for these important animals.

*This class is intended for adults but is suitable for 16+ with an adult present*

Learn how to build your own Preserved Miniworld in this exciting class.

Taught by The Terrorium Shop, Denver’s natural history store, you will learn how to assemble a beautifully preserved display showcasing elements of nature. Completely put your own spin on this itty bitty world and have it for years to treasure.

This class will start with a short lecture on native pollinators by the Butterfly Pavilion and then go into the art portion. The specimen we will work with is a Colorado native butterfly, Colias philodice.

Included is one 2.25""x 3.75"" glass dome with a cork base (pictured), 1 mounted sulphur butterfly specimen (Colias philodice), crystals, dried botanicals, and moss.
