Beekeeping Bootcamp Package 2022

About Beekeeping Bootcamp

These workshops are designed to support beginning beekeepers all the through their first season. Workshops are taught by Lorna McCallister, Butterfly Pavilion Target Species Manager and knowledgeable beekeeper. You'll work alongside Lorna and other learning beekeepers, developing the skills necessary to achieve thriving hives. Beekeeping Bootcamp is qualified through the Colorado State Beekeeping Association (CSBA)!

Cost:

Member: $150 for first participant, $50 for one additional participant

Non-member: $165 for first participant, $75 for one additional participant

 

  • Thank you for your interest in our 2022 Beekeeping Bootcamp program at Butterfly Pavilion! We are planning on hosting again our 5-part beekeeping bootcamp classes and making adjustments for possible virtual learning as well as safe, modified, in-person time in our apiary in 2022. Classes can be purchased separately or as a package.

 

2022 Class dates are:

 

  • Saturday January 8: Beekeeping Basics - 10am-1pm (in-person)
  • Saturday April 9: Package Installation - 10am-1pm (in-person)
  • Saturday June 11: Mid-Season Management and maladies - 10am-1pm - (in-person)
  • Saturday August 13: Honey Extraction - 10am-1pm (in-person)
  • Saturday October 8: Preparing for Winter - 10am-1pm (in-person)

BP Family Nature Club

Explore exciting nature topics with the whole family. Workshops typically take place the first Saturday of the month from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm.

COST:

Members: $6 Adults, $4 Children (2   12)
Non-members: $14 Adults, $6 Children (2   12)
Includes admission to Butterfly Pavilion

Please note:

Pre-registration and pre-payment required. Family Nature Club workshops are best suited for families with children ages 4-10.

30 person maximum per program.

Bringing a large group or have questions about ages? Call us at 720-974-1877 to see which tour can best accommodate you!

Programs are not eligible for senior discounts. Children under 2 years old are free of admission, but content is not well suited for this age range.

 

 

 

Butterfly Pavilion Rainforest Yoga

Experience a rejuvenating yoga class in our tropical rainforest. Led by one of our rotating instructors, classes provide an amazing opportunity to transcend the hustle and bustle of daily life as you practice amongst the butterflies in our conservatory.

Refunds/Transfers: If you are no longer able to attend, please contact Butterfly Pavilion 48 hours before your class and you will be given the option to transfer your registration to a different date. No refunds are given once the class has been purchased, unless Butterfly Pavilion cancels the class for any reason.  No transfers will be allowed after the class has ended if the participant is unable to attend. 

 

General Admission Timed Entry Tickets

 

Explore the magic of hundreds of monarchs during Monarch Magic, November 1st - 30th.

 

Colorado Backyard will continue to be closed 45 minutes past the hour for cleaning and reopen at the top of every hour.

Tickets only valid for the date and time selected. Tickets are non-refundable.

Please maintain social distance and limit your visit to 80 minutes and exit the facility.

Guests should check in within the half-hour following their timed entry with the exception of 4:00 p.m. tickets.

Front Doors lock at 4:15 p.m.

Tickets must be reserved for children under 2.

 

EBT/SNAP recipients can receive discounted tickets by showing their card to the front desk when purchasing tickets. EBT/SNAP discounts are not available online.

 

In accordance with the Jefferson County Public Health order issued on Monday, November 22, 2021, all guests 3 and older are required to wear appropriate face coverings, regardless of vaccination status, to enter our facility.

 

 

Living Lights EBT/SNAP Admission

Butterfly Pavilion's Living Lights is Denver's newest and most immersive holiday tradition!

Enjoy our enchanting idoor festival of lights filled with luminous aerial artists and performers, glowing exhibits, and a kids glow-in-the-dark dance party with the Firefly Princess!

Online reservations are required for Living Lights.

EBT/SNAP recipients are REQUIRED to show their physical SNAP/EBT card to the front desk when redeeming tickets.

Tickets are only valid for the date and time selected. Tickets are non-refundable.

Guests should check in within the 15 minutes prior or following their entry time.

Tripod Photography

Relish a quiet hour of tripod photography in the tropical rainforest before we open our doors to the public. Snap photos of awakening butterflies and exotic tropical flowers in the morning light. Sessions are offered monthly and begin at 7:45 am.

You may pre-register and pay online (preferred) or pay at the door.  Program is limited to 25 participants.

Cost:  $15 for non-members, $11.00 for members. Note: This session is self-guided. Participants supply own equipment.

Winter Break Camps

Wednesday December 22:

Snails and Slugs: Have you ever seen a snail next to a slug? What's the difference? Gather with us as we discover what makes a snail, versus a slug and how they like to shine bright like holiday lights!

 

Thursday December 23:

Beetles, Beetles, Beetles: Do you like beetles? If you do, this is the camp for you! Learn with us as we uncover the amazing qualities of these animals that make up most of the invertebrate population.

 

Monday December 27:

Bright Jellies: Do you know what a sea jelly is? Why do these animals light up? Dive down deep with us as we find out why they light up and what the various patterns and colors might mean.

 

Tuesday December 28:

Big and Small Jellies: How big can a sea jelly get? What is the smallest size of sea jelly? Spend the day with us as we learn about the different sizes of sea jellies and what that means for you the next time you go swimming.

 

Wednesday December 29:

Different Jellies: Sea jellies are only found in the oceans, right? Join us as we discover if sea jellies are found only in the sea and how they might change, depending on where they live.

 

Thursday December 30:

Cephalopods: Nautilus and Cuttles: What is a cephalopod? How are these animals similar? Spend one of the last days of the year with us as we try to answer these questions and discover how these animals relate to us.

 

Monday January 3:

Cephalopods: Squid and Octopus: How are an octopus and squid related? How can you tell them apart? Join us in the new year as we learn about these nautical creatures and how their colors, textures, and patterns help them survive.

 

Monday January 17:

Martin Luther King Day, Electric Pokémon: Join us for another spectacular day, all centered around electric type Pokémon! Learn about these amazing creatures and how they relate to animals found all around the world!

 

Beekeeping Basics

Interested in starting a hive?  In this session, we re covering the basics!  We will delve into honey bee biology and beekeeping history, learn what equipment is needed, discuss optimal hive locations and gain more practical advice for a crash course that will get you ready for the season.

Package Installation and Early Season Management

Let s get these bees settled in! In this session we will cover the practical aspects of getting your hive set up from acquiring and transporting packages, to installation, to handling. Experience the excitement and learn hands-on as together we install a live hive!

Mid-Season Management and Maladies

How are we looking? In this mid-season session, we will check in to see how to manage challenges that come up over the season. Do you need to add room or split a colony? How do you check for swarming or identify a parasite problem? We will discuss all kinds of potential issues that can come up and get to the bottom board of how to recognize and solve it.

Honey Extraction

How sweet it is! This workshop will focus all on honey: how to extract and how much to remove, what to use, how to process it, and of course how it tastes!!

Preparing for Winter

As you ve successfully seen your bees over the warm season, it s time to hunker down and get ready for the frost.  We will close out our series by determining all the ways to keep your bees warm, safe and healthy over the cold months.
